Once a human file assessment stage has been created, it will be visible on the dashboard of users that it is assigned to.
Accessing human file assessment stages
Click the 'Start/Continue Task' button on your dashboard. You will be taken to the annotation tool, with the first file in your stage loaded. There are a few different implementations of the annotation tool, including for images, videos and text files. Taking images as an example, more information about using the image annotation tool is available in the Guide to the Highlighter Image Annotation Tool.
The files in your stage appear along the bottom right in your thumbnail tray. If there is only one file in the stage, the thumbnail tray will not appear.
Processing human file assessment stages
When you start/continue working with your assessment stage in the annotation tool, it locks the first available batch of files (10 files by default) in the stage so others cannot accidentally work on the same files at the same time.
Unlocking files
To unlock all files in the stage so others can access them:
- Visit your process page
- Click the 'Stage Definition' tab
- Scroll down to the Human File Assessments panel then click the 'Unlock Remaining' button next to your assessment stage.

Working with files
Each time you click the 'Submit' button, the annotation tool submits your file with any annotations, then advances to the next file in the stage.
You can always go back to a previous file by clicking on it in the thumbnail drawer at the bottom of the screen, or by using the left arrow key. However, any further changes you then make on that file will be recorded as a new assessment.
The complete history of assessments on a file any any time is available in the History panel in the bottom right.
If you reload the annotation tool page, any files that have already been submitted will be removed from the thumbnail tray.
